In November last year, a tumble dryer fire safety risk was issued by Whirlpool. Tumble dryer Fires are being caused by excess fluff, which can catch on the heating element.

In August this year, a machine awaiting repair caused a large tower block fire in London. The fire left families homeless and needed 120 firefighters to bring the fire under control.

A Long Wait

During a survey completed by the consumer group Which?, it was discovered that a large number of customers affected by the problem would have to wait more than 6 months for a replacement or repair.

5 million affected machines were sold in the UK, under the Creda, Indesit and Hotpoint brands, between April 2004 and September 2015.

Whirlpool has been undertaking a repair programme and have offered customers discounted replacements to anyone with an affected tumble dryer.

Modifications have been criticised due to the time it is taking to complete repairs. The company’s advice is that the machines can still be used, providing they are not left unattended.
